LSCSW
ART Trained Therapist
You can be good at handling life and still be struggling with it. I work with thoughtful, capable adults who look like they have it together but feel anxious, depleted, disconnected, or overwhelmed underneath. Many are high-achieving professionals, caregivers, and people who are used to being the dependable one.
I’m Tara Tooley, LSCSW, founder of Blackbird Therapy in Overland Park, Kansas. I bring more than 20 years of mental health experience and advanced training in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). My specialties include burnout, chronic stress, high-functioning anxiety and depression, trauma, grief and loss, and major life transitions.
My clients often describe overthinking, perfectionism, people-pleasing, difficulty setting boundaries, or feeling responsible for everyone else. Some remain productive while privately feeling exhausted or emotionally flat. Others understand their patterns clearly but still find themselves caught in the same reactions. You don’t have to wait until you can no longer function to deserve support.
My style is warm, direct, analytical, and practical, with room for humor. I work especially well with people who value honest conversation, think deeply, and want more than generic advice. If you tend to analyze your emotions, we can work with that strength while making room for experiences that thinking alone hasn’t resolved.
My background in oncology and hospice social work, end-of-life doula training, and experience as a two-time cancer survivor also inform my work with medical trauma, chronic illness, cancer survivorship, and caregiver stress. I support clients navigating bereavement, suicide loss, pet loss, divorce, and changes that leave them questioning who they are or what comes next.
Together, we’ll focus on what matters to you: less distress, more choice in how you respond, and a life with room for your needs, not only your responsibilities.
I offer individualized ART treatment through traditional appointments, 90-minute focused sessions, and three-hour therapy intensives. In-person sessions are available in Overland Park, KS serving Johnson County and the Kansas City metro. Telehealth is available throughout Kansas and Missouri.
