Julie Jones

ART Trained Therapist
About Dr. Jones
Dr. Jones is known for innovative, practical approaches to therapy—especially for individuals and families whose lives don't fit neatly into a standard parenting manual. Her work is grounded in real life: finding strategies that make sense for the person, the family, and the challenges they are actually facing. Her areas of specialization include ADHD, autism, and anxiety, with particular experience helping individuals and families navigate complex and severe anxiety disorders, including selective mutism, school refusal, and oppositional behaviors. Many of the clients she works with are also navigating autoimmune conditions, complex hormonal challenges, and learning differences that can add another layer of complexity to everyday life.

Helping Families Navigate Life Transitions
Dr. Jones has a particular interest in helping families navigate major life transitions, especially the journey from adolescence into adulthood. For more than two decades, she has guided families through decisions about schools, educational programs, living arrangements, and the practical supports needed to build a meaningful adult life.
She brings a thoughtful, whole-person perspective to planning social, educational, healthcare, and transportation opportunities for individuals with disabilities as they grow and age. Her work may extend beyond traditional therapy to include Life Care Planning and serving as a Trust Advisor for select adult clients. She helps families think strategically about both immediate needs and long-term quality of life, with an emphasis on creating plans that are realistic, sustainable, and tailored to the individual.

A Practical, Individualized Approach
Dr. Jones draws from a variety of therapeutic approaches and adapts her work to each person's needs. She uses Accelerated Resolution Therapy to help address trauma and symptoms of PTSD and Emotionally Focused Therapy in her work with couples. With families, she focuses on strengthening relationships and creating healthier, more effective family systems.
Therapy may also include practical education and what Dr. Jones sometimes calls "life cheats"—creative, often unconventional strategies that make everyday life more manageable. Her goal is not simply to help people understand themselves better, but to help them identify realistic changes that can improve how they function, relate to others, and navigate daily life.

Research and Professional Experience
Dr. Jones's research interests have included the connection between exercise and mental health, ADHD and marriage, self-determination, the social transition to college for neurodivergent students, and the relationship between executive functioning and technology use.
Outside of her private practice, Dr. Jones has spent many years serving as a disaster mental health responder and trainer with the Red Cross. Her professional experience also includes teaching at the university level, supervising mental health associates, and serving as a lead counselor in a private school, where she helped develop and implement innovative programming.

Beyond the Office
Dr. Jones is married and has four adult children. As a fourth-generation rancher, she is now enjoying a new learning curve: land and river conservation. She has traded triathlons for functional fitness and spends her free time cutting running trails through a twenty-acre forest.
For Dr. Jones, life is about staying curious, continuing to learn, and finding practical ways to make things work. That same mindset shapes the way she works with the individuals and families she serves.
